History
The history of GSC (Girl Scout Cookies)
GSC’s documented history starts in the late-2000s Bay Area, where Leafly says breeder Jigga developed it from Flo Rida OG Kush and proprietary F1 Durb. Its spread, named cuts and descendants are well documented; its exact parent story still carries disagreement.1,2
Timeline
- ~2007Leafly dates Jigga’s cross of proprietary F1 Durb and Flo Rida OG Kush to about this time.1
- 2008Leafly says Ghost obtained the cutting that came to be called the Forum Cut and shared it with a small network.1
- 2012Leafly’s family history dates Sunset Sherbert to an accidental pollination involving GSC.1
- 2013Leafly’s family timeline lists GSC as Best Indica at the NorCal Cannabis Cup.1
- 2014Leafly’s family timeline says reversing Sunset Sherbert to GSC produced Gelato selections, and lists Thin Mint Cookies as Best Hybrid at the NorCal Medical Cannabis Cup.1
- 2014–2024The matched state-lab GSC records used on this site run across this period; their dates and results are aggregated from public state data.3
- Oct 5, 2026On Oct 5, 2026, Weedmaps listed plain GSC flower at 173 store listings across 14 of 27 markets; 71 listings were within 50 miles of Los Angeles. 13 markets had none.4
A documented origin account, not a single uncontested genealogy
Leafly reports that Jigga developed Girl Scout Cookies for the late-2000s medical market and describes a Flo Rida OG Kush × F1 Durb cross. Leafly’s GSC page uses the shorter description of a sub-type of OG Kush × F1 Durb.1,2
DNA Genetics presents a Bay Area Cookie Fam account in the early 2010s and reduces the lineage to OG Kush × Durban Poison. Because that account differs in timing and parent detail, the guide retains it as attributed seller/editorial context rather than a correction of the Leafly history.1,5
How the Forum Cut spread
Leafly says one GSC cutting obtained by Ghost in 2008 was shared through friends and became the Forum Cut after the forums where people debated it. Leafly’s Forum Cut page separately calls it one of GSC’s original cuttings.1,6
A family that kept branching
The GSC genetics panel lists Sunset Sherbert as a child. Leafly says Gelato came from Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, while GMO Cookies is GSC × Chemdawg. The documented lineage supports a family-tree comparison; it does not authenticate every later item that borrows a Cookies name.2,7,8
The disputed part of the story
- F1 Durb: Weedmaps and AllBud connect the F1 Durb side to Durban Poison, but Leafly’s family history reports Mr. Sherbinski said Durb was not Durban Poison while also reporting Jigga said it was. The guide leaves the relationship unresolved.1,9,10
- Version names: Leafly documents Forum Cut, Thin Mint and Platinum as related cuts or versions, and Leafly’s Platinum page adds an unknown third strain. The names are not all the same genetic record.2,6,11
- Awards: Leafly’s family timeline provides dated milestones; SeedFinder carries additional award listings from its database. They are kept distinct rather than combined into a single independently verified tally.1,12
