Genetics

GSC (Girl Scout Cookies) genetics and lineage

The best-supported short lineage is OG Kush × F1 Durb, attributed to Jigga. That short answer needs a footnote: the person Leafly interviewed for its family history said Durb was not Durban Poison, while the same article reports Jigga said it was.1,2,3

Family tree

  • OG KushLeafly and Weedmaps place an OG Kush type/cut on the GSC parent side.
  • F1 DurbLeafly names F1 Durb; the relationship of its “Durb” name to Durban Poison is contested.

GSC

  • Sunset SherbertLeafly’s GSC genetics panel lists it as a child.
  • GelatoLeafly says Gelato is Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies.
  • GMO CookiesLeafly says GMO Cookies is GSC × Chemdawg.
The tree uses the documented OG Kush × F1 Durb account and labels the F1 Durb / Durban Poison question as disputed.1,2,3,4,5,6

The parent account

Leafly says California breeder Jigga crossed a sub-type of OG Kush with F1 Durb. Weedmaps uses OG Kush and the breeder’s own F1 Durban Poison. Leafly’s longer family history names Flo Rida OG Kush and describes F1 Durb as Jigga’s mix of F1 and Durb.1,2,3

OG Kush is therefore the shared parent-side reference. Leafly calls OG Kush a hybrid, lists its flavors as woody, pine and earthy, and presents it as a parent of GSC; that does not establish an exact OG Kush clone in every later GSC listing.4

The Durban Poison question

The explanation that GSC is OG Kush × Durban Poison is common, including Weedmaps’ strain page and AllBud’s parent summary. But Leafly’s family history reports a contrary account from Mr. Sherbinski, who said Durb was not Durban Poison, alongside the report that Jigga told High Times the Durb was Durban Poison. The accurate wording is disputed, not proven.2,3,7

Durban Poison remains a useful comparison because Leafly describes it as a pure sativa from Durban, South Africa, whose top reported effects are focused, energetic and uplifted. A comparison is not proof of a settled GSC grandparent relationship.8

Cuts and versions are not aliases

Forum Cut Cookies is one of the original GSC cuttings, according to Leafly. Its family history says a 2008 cutting spread through a small network and came to be called the Forum Cut after the internet forums where it was debated.2,9

Thin Mint and Platinum GSC are presented by Leafly as GSC variations, while Leafly calls Platinum Cookies a next evolution of GSC involving OG Kush, Durban Poison and a third unknown strain. These are related names, not interchangeable labels for a strict GSC record.1,10

Documented branches

Leafly’s GSC genetics display lists Sunset Sherbert and Lemon Cherry Gelato as children. Leafly separately gives Gelato as Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, and GMO Cookies as GSC × Chemdawg.1,5,6

SeedFinder records hundreds of direct descendants under its clone-only GSC record, but a name on a family tree cannot validate the genetics of an item sold under a similar name.11
